Outsourcing, cons and pros

tagged , and

Outsourcing in the IT business is getting increasingly popular in the UK. More and more companies use this method to focus on their core business. Outsourcing and having your IT services in-house has advantages and disadvantages. But let’s start with, What’s outsourcing?

The last, let’s say, 20 years, outsourcing is become very popular. With outsourcing a company only focus on their core business and the other remaining tasks will be given to other companies who are specialized to carry out those tasks. For example, almost every company has a website, and often their website is maintained by another company. Recruitment was getting less and less important. That’s outsourcing.

Outsourcing has the advantage that you don’t have to recruit new people to do certain tasks. You can just contact a company, such as a webhost and a web designer. They are specialized in what they do, so it’s easier to just contact a company and tell them what you need than hiring a single person. It can also be cheaper because of the competitive prices in the current ICT branch.

But outsourcing also has disadvantages. For example you’ll lose control over certain tasks such as full control over your website. It also causes inflexibility because you can’t react quickly on changing circumstances. Another disadvantage is that the security of your company can be threatened. Outsiders from other companies might get access to confidential data when doing their jobs. That’s not really secure, is it?
